AIS

Aquatic Invasive Species consist of Eurasian Watermilfoil, Zebra Mussels, Starry Stonewort and others. We work hard to treat our lake, monitor for signs of new AIS and help educate our residents and guests on how to prevent and eradicate these invasive species. Continue reading below to learn more.

Eurasian Watermilfoil

Lake Washburn has had a history of Eurasian Milfoil in our lake. As recently as 2025, we have removed, treated and continue to monitor the infected areas. If you see anything that looks suspicious, please contact us! Click the button below to learn more.

Zebra Mussels

Thankfully we have not seen Zebra Mussels in our lake at this time. However, they have been found in nearby Lake Roosevelt. Zebra mussels can wreak havoc on lake health. Click the button below to learn more.

Starry Stonewort

Starry Stonewort

No Starry Stonewort has been found in Lake Washburn at this time. Some unique characteristics are Dense mats at the water’s surface inhibit water recreation. Overtakes habitat and outcompetes native aquatic plants, potentially lowering diversity.Provides unsuitable shelter, food, and nesting habitat for native animals.

Purple Loosestrife

Purple loosestrife

Purple Loosestrife is found in a few areas of shoreline on Lake Washburn. Extra care is needed to remove it, so please click the button to read more.

Purple loosestrife impacts:

  • Dense growth along shoreland areas makes it difficult to access open water.

  • Overtakes habitat and outcompetes native aquatic plants, potentially lowering diversity.

  • Provides unsuitable shelter, food, and nesting habitat for native animals.

  • Dense root systems change the hydrology of wetlands.
